Parking downtown is free. Time limits run 8 AM to 6 PM, every day. Here’s how long you can stay where, from the town’s own notices.

Is parking free in downtown Westport, CT?
Yes. The town lots and the street spaces downtown don’t charge. Time limits keep the spaces turning over. Source: Westport Journal, May 2024.
How long can I park on Main Street?
Two hours, from 8 AM to 6 PM, every day. The same goes for the street spaces on Elm Street, Bay Street, Church Lane and Jesup Road. The 2-hour signs went up on August 4, 2025. Source: the town’s notice of August 1, 2025.
When are the time limits enforced? Do they apply on Sundays?
From 8 AM to 6 PM, seven days a week, Sundays included. Outside those hours the time limits don’t apply. Source: the town’s notice of April 19, 2024.
What’s the fine for going over the time limit?
When the limits returned in May 2024, the Westport Journal and News12 reported fines of $25 for staying over 3 hours and $50 for staying over 6. You can pay or appeal a ticket on the town’s parking portal.
Where can I park all day downtown?
In the all-day spaces of the town lots. The biggest are Imperial Avenue (170 spaces), Town Hall (135), Upper Library (115), Senior Center (114) and Police (99). On weekdays the ones closest to Main Street fill first, and Imperial Avenue almost always has room. See which lots have room now.
Where can people who work downtown park?
In the all-day spaces a little farther from Main Street. At a typical weekday noon, Imperial Avenue, Town Hall, the Senior Center and Police usually still have room. Parking for downtown staff has the numbers and a free window sign.
When can I park at Gorham Island?
After 5 PM on weekdays, and all day on Saturdays and Sundays. Source: the parking map the town’s 2024 notice links to.
Does the Farmers’ Market affect parking?
On Thursdays from May to November, the market takes part of the Imperial Avenue lot from 10 AM to 2 PM. Source: Westport Farmers’ Market.
What happens during a snow parking ban?
Before a big storm, the town can declare a town-wide parking ban. Keep your car off the street until the town lifts it. The last ban was lifted on February 24, 2026. Source: the town’s notice.
How do I pay a Westport parking ticket?
Online, on the town’s parking portal, where you can also appeal. The town’s parking office is at parking@westportct.gov and 203-341-6052.
Where do I park for the train or for Compo Beach?
